Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto issued a joint statement saying that Bulgaria’s decision to impose a tax on Russian gas transit is a move aimed against Hungary and Serbia, the Serbian Government posted on its website.
“The new Bulgarian regulation threatens the safety of energy supply in Hungary and Serbia,” said the statement.
It added that the European Union (EU) has not imposed sanctions on the delivery of natural gas from Russia and that the Bulgarian Prime Minister’s arguments are invalid.
This decision goes against European solidarity, it endangers the energy security of both EU member states and candidate countries, the two sides said in their statement.
“Hungary and Serbia will coordinate their positions and respond to this controversial decision by Bulgaria accordingly,” said the joint statement.
