One man was wounded in an armed clash in the northern Serbian city of Sombor near a camp site used by migrants, an N1 reporter said on Thursday.
Witnesses said the exchange of fire broke out around 6 pm, reportedly between two groups of migrants at a bridge across a canal just outside the city.
The local Soinfo portal said that heavily armed police cordoned off the area after the wounded man was taken to hospital. It said that the clash broke out between groups of migrants from Afghanistan and Syria with at least one man wielding a rifle.
Sombor lies close to Serbia’s border with Croatia and Hungary. The part of the city where the clash broke out is reported to be controlled by gangs of smugglers.
