Media: Kosovo's special police head north; Official denies

A column of armoured vehicles of Kosovo's police special unit was seen early on Friday moving towards the north mainly populated by the Serbs, according to the Reporters website, apparently due to a protest announced for later in the day in the northern part of the divided Mitrovica city, but the police denied such reports.

The website said that many police left Pristina for the northern part of Mitrovica, where the Serbs announced the protest over the ban on holding Serbia's presidential and parliamentary elections on April 3 in Kosovo.
TV Dukagjini and Gazeta Express carried the same news.
However, Kosovo police spokesperson Beki Kelani told Gazeta Express that special units' activities were usual and unrelated to any particular event.
The Serb Mayor of the south-eastern town of Strpce, Dalibor Jevtic, announced the protest in Mitrovica earlier this week, after a meeting with Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.
