Serbian Progressive Party MP Ugljesa Mrdic has been on a hunger strike for the ninth day, along with five veterans, in front of the National Assembly in Belgrade. A medical team provided assistance to Mrdic in front of the Assembly shortly before noon, after which he returned to the tent he was staying in with the help of the veterans, N1 reported.

Drones flew over the area where Mrdic was given assistance a little later.

On October 31, when the protest began, Mrdic said that his main demand was for the competent prosecutor's office to arrest the former president of the Assembly of Shareholders of Serbian Railways Infrastructure, Nebojsa Bojovic, and the former executive director of that company, Milutin Milosevic.

Mrdic claims that he recently submitted evidence against Bojovic and Milosevic to the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in connection with the collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad traini station on November 1, 2024, naming the two as most responsible for this accident in which 16 people died.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic yesterday called on Mrdic to end the strike because, as he said, "he saw that he was having a hard time taking it."

Dijana Hrka, the mother of Stefan Hrka, a young man who died in a canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station, is also on a hunger strike near the Parliament, staying in a tent on the street and sleeping on pallets, because she was initially not allowed to approach the National Assembly Building, where she had intended to stay, when she began the strike.

The area in front of the National Assembly is secured by the police, and supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party have been gathering on the plateau for days.
