The head the Union of Doctors and Pharmacists warned on Thursday that the Serbian health care system will operate with a skeleton staff on Friday because of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally.

“The public should know that just 20 percent of the health care system will operate and if they don’t have to they shouldn’t go to see their doctor tomorrow,” Dr Rade Panic told Nova daily newspaper.

According to Panic, “all acting CEOs of health care institutions and their subordinates are political apointees … which means that there will be no hospital, ward and health care center chiefs, nurses and technicians at work on May 26… just a few on call staff”.

Nova recalled that the CEO of the Lazarevac Health Care Center sent his staff a message saying that their absence from work to attend the SNS rally will be covered and that the Zvezdara Hospital CEO was ordered to bring 100 of the hospital’s employees to the rally.
