Men in hoods deface student banners

The student banners were unfurled on the side of a bridge across the highway running through the Serbian capital. Those banners said: New Year, Old Demands - I’ll Explode - No New, You Still Owe Us for the Old.
The student banners appeared on social media posts.

Later on Tuesday, a smaller banner was placed over one of the student banners. The new banner said: Croats Go Home, This is Serbia and it was written in Cyrillic. That script is one of two (along with Latin script) used by the Serbian language and is preferred by Serb nationalists. The allusion to Croats could refer to the claims by President Aleksandar Vucic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic that the students were using a handbook written by students in the Croatian capital Zagreb during as a record of their activities during a protest several years ago. Serb nationalists view anything coming from Croatia as negative.

Belgrade University students said in social media posts that this was not their message, that they oppose it but that they can’t prevent the men in black hoods from putting it up.
