Message from Bishop Grigorije to protesters and police: No night is dark enough to conceal evil

The bishop sent his message via Instagram, and we are sharing it in full:

We are witnessing heartbreaking scenes in which young people, students, and citizens are suffering needlessly — their only “offense” being that they refuse to accept injustice.

Dear students, and all of you, the “rebellious” people – your dignity is your greatest strength. Your peaceful resistance is the most honorable struggle for a better and more just Serbia.

Dear police officers and all members of public security forces – brutality against the innocent (and this people is indeed innocent) is not a sign of strength, but of fear from behind the shield. And fear does not come from God.

If you cannot stand with those who are peacefully fighting for truth, justice, and freedom – you are, at the very least, obliged to guard your conscience.

For it is the same people on both sides of the shield.

And regardless of any orders – do not use excessive force. Stop the senseless and ruthless arrests.

This is not politics – this is the Gospel.

There is no night dark enough to conceal evil. There is no darkness that will last forever.

Therefore – and this applies to everyone – do not be afraid. Stand still, but stand firm. Do not let unjust violence corrupt you. Do not surrender your dignity.

For one truth remains eternal: God is always on the side of the humiliated – never on the side of the tyrants.
