The Serbian Defense Ministry said there is an increased presence of military police patrols in the squares, parks and streets of major cities, shopping malls, railway stations, the Belgrade Fair and other busy places.
It said that, based on the conclusions of the Council for National Security meeting held on March 23, the Serbian Armed Forces, in co-ordination with the Ministry of the Interior and security services, are undertaking precautionary measures and preventive actions to ensure the safety of the citizens, facilities and institutions of Serbia.
Over the past few days members of the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) carrying long-barreled firearms were seen in the streets of Belgrade.
The Council of National Security meeting was held following the terrorist attack in Moscow in which over 130 people were killed.
