Tatjana Macura, the Serbian Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women, apologized during her appearance on N1 TV to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for referring to him as a “wimp” in a tweet some time ago and acknowledged that her comment was inappropriate.

Asked if she had discussed this with Vucic and if he ever held that against her, Macura said they have never talked about it and that he hadn't reproached her “because he is a seasoned politician who understands the consequences of reacting emotionally or in the heat of political battle.”

“We have discussed topics far more important than who said what about whom on Twitter. I believe the Serbian citizens will feel the quality of our conversation in a better way than if we were engaged in these trivial matters,” said Macura when questioned about her revised opinion on certain colleagues in the government.

She said she was done with social media networks, adding that she has learned from her own experience that “this isn't a path that paves the way for dialogue.”

Macura expressed regret for using offensive language in her previous tweets.

“I know how to say I’m sorry, I know I was wrong then. Maybe I wasn't wrong in criticizing what the government was doing at the time, but I was wrong in how I expressed my opinion,” she said.

The minister said she would also retract a 2018 tweet she posted about her party colleague Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, in which she said “Sinisa Mali appointed as finance minister; can it get any worse?”

“Since then, we have successfully negotiated on many important issues, and I believe that at the time when I wrote that tweet, around 2017 or 2018, I was frustrated that certain problems were not being resolved, I wrote those things in the heat of the moment,” explained Macura.
