Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Bratislav Gasic told a news conference on Thursday that two men confessed to hitting the 2-year-old Danka Ilic who went missing 10 days earlier with their car.
Gasic said that two men had been arrested and confessed to hitting the little girl with their car. He said the two men were employees of a local communal service driving a company Fiat Panda when they hit the child, adding that they put the body into the car and left it a local garbage dump.
The minister said that two witnesses confirmed that Danka walked out of the yard and onto the road. He said the two men stopped a short distance from the place the girl was hit to relieve themselves. They continued down the road and hit the girl. Gasic said that the two men were questioned and failed polygraph tests. He said that the search for the child’s body was underway and added that one of the men claimed that he moved the body. “We can’t trust them because they are blaming each other,” he said.
Gasic said that the two men were stopped by the girl’s father who asked if they had seen her and they said no.
The minister said the police collected security camera videos from nearby houses and confirmed the movement of the Fiat Panda with data from its GPS. He said that one of the arrested men took part in the search for the child.
