Serbia’s Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Thursday that the government adopted an integrated energy and climate plan under which 45 percent of the country's electricity will be from renewable sources by 2030.

A government press release said that the plan marks the start of a new stage of the development of the national energy industry. The minister said that plan will boost power supply security, increase the share of clean energy sources and upgrade environmental protection. She said the strategic document is in line with European decarbonization standards.

"The integrated plan focuses on investments in renewables, with around 3.5 GW worth of new solar and wind power plants to be on the grid by 2030, meaning that nearly one in every two megawatts of generated power will come from clean sources," she said.
