Culture and Information Minister Maja Gojkovic said that there are about 2,400 media outlets in Serbia, adding that this allows the public to chose the kind of information they want.

She told the Digital 2021 regional conference on telecommunications and the media that the number of media outlets “guarantees the most varied possible media offer which allows every citizen to freely choose which and what kind of information they want”.

According to her, technological development and the presence of big telecommunications systems help raise the level of media pluralism in both Serbia and the region. Gojkovic said that her ministry is investing effort to bring improvements. “I primarily mean amending existing media laws and improving media literacy in cooperation with UNESCO,” she said.

The Serbian Culture and Information Ministry has jurisdiction over the media sphere in the country. Gojkovic is a senior member of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
