Ministry says state has capacity to battle corruption

The Serbian Police Anti-Corruption Department said on Tuesday that the number of charges filed this year shows the state has the capacity to battle corruption and economic crimes.

A press release from the Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) said that charges for corruption and economic crimes were filed against 525 people since the start of the year as part of operations against corruption and financial crime under the orders of prosecution anti-corruption departments in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kraljevo.
It said that the crimes covered by the charges inflicted damages of almost 5 billion Dinars (1 Euro – 118 Dinars). The police arrested public officials and CEOs as well as others, it added.
“The results show that the state has the capacity, knowledge and commitment to systematically suppress corruption and economic crimes while the cooperation with the police with prosecutors at high level,” it said.
