Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) Chief of General Staff Milan Mojsilovic met with the new commander of the NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo (KFOR), Enrico Barduani, urging the international forces to carry out their mandate consistently and impartially, and, above all, protect the Serbs and Serbian religious, cultural, and historical heritage in Kosovo and Metohija (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province).

A press release issued by the Serbian Defense Ministry quoted Mojsilovic as saying that, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, the Military-Technical Agreement, and other signed agreements, KFOR remains the only legitimate military force in Kosovo and Metohija.

During discussions with the Italian general, who assumed his position earlier this month, Mojsilovic addressed the security situation, stressing that the current environment in Kosovo and Metohija is unstable and sensitive. He emphasized that the greatest threat to security comes from the “unilateral and provocative actions of the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina, aimed at altering the ethnic composition in the northern part of the province.”

The SAF Chief of Staff congratulated Major General Barduani on his appointment as KFOR commander, and expressed hope that during his command cooperation between the SAF and KFOR will continue to be professional, and in the service of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
