Flights were delayed at Belgrade airport on Friday, just a day after Serbian Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Goran Vesic criticized the French Vinci that holds the concession to the airport.
Vesic called a meeting with airport management for Friday morning. Nova.rs said that at least 8 flights were delayed for hours on Friday morning with no information provided by the airport.
Vesic told Vinci Airports officials that they have to take urgent measures to normalize the situation at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport and gave them 3 days to come up with plans and call a meeting with the Vinci management in Paris. A government press release said the Vinci officials said they would issue an apology and normalize the situation.
A large number of flights, mainly Air Serbia, were reported to have been delayed or canceled over the past few weeks. Airport staff are reported to have said that they were never faced with a similar situation.
At least two flights were delayed for more than 6 hours. An N1 reporter said his flight was also delayed. The reporter said that flight to Turkey which was supposed to leave in the early morning hours was moved to 9:45 while flight to Athens which was scheduled to leave at 00:45 left at 6:35. Other flights to holiday destinations were also delayed.
Air Serbia said on Thursday that its flights were delayed because of a malfunction on the security scanner system.
