
The Traffic Safety Coordination Body said on Wednesday that 376 people died in traffic accidents in Serbia this year, 12 percent more than in 2023.
The Body’s meeting, chaired by Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic, said that there were 22,810 traffic accidents in which 13,358 people were injured.
Traffic Police Department chief Slavisa Lakicevic said that the number of traffic accidents dropped by abiout 2 percent compared to 2023 and the number of people injured by about 1 percent but added that there were 12 percent more deaths.
Dacic said that road safety levels had dropped in the past 45 days, resulting in the deaths of 8 children and ordered the ministry board to draft a comprehensive analysis of the most frequent causes of traffic accidents and propose measures to deal with the issue.
