The holiday season is an ideal time for travel, especially for families as schools close and many people take time off work. This year, Serbian mountain resorts are seeing high demand, particularly during the school winter break, which lasts from December 20 to January 20.

According to Aleksandar Senicic, director of the National Association of Travel Agencies (YUTA), ski destinations like Kopaonik, Stara Planina, and Zlatibor, as well as popular family-oriented locations such as Divcibare, Tara, and Zlatar, are expected to be fully booked.

"From late December to mid-January, when the school break occurs, the mountains will be packed. There’s also significant interest in New Year’s Eve celebrations," Senicic told N1.

Festive programs on offer

Visitors to Serbian mountain resorts can enjoy a wide variety of entertainment programs for New Year's Eve.

At Kopaonik, major hotels and venues will host performances by prominent folk artists, including Seka Aleksic, Svetlana Ceca Raznatovic, and Stevan Andjelkovic. Celebrations will continue with live music on January 1.

Zlatibor offers similar festivities, with hotels featuring live music acts such as Jelena Kostov, Branislav Mojicevic, and Akustik Bend. Public celebrations on Kraljev Trg include a concert by Pedja Jovanovic starting at 9 pm, followed by a fireworks display and a performance by Dejan Jevdjic's brass orchestra at midnight. Vlado Georgiev will headline the January 1 concert.

Costs for every budget

New Year's packages vary widely depending on the venue and performers.

"Most packages start on December 30 and end on January 2, typically including three nights and four days. Prices start at around €170–€180 per person but can go as high as €2,000 for luxury hotels with top-tier performers," Senicic explained.

For those seeking budget-friendly options, apartment rentals are widely available in all mountain resorts.

"Apartment rates for New Year’s range from €50–€60 per day for smaller studios to €120–€150 for larger units. Families can rent an apartment for 4–5 days for approximately €500–€600, though they’ll need to account for travel, food, and any organized New Year’s celebrations," he added.

With something for every budget and a festive atmosphere, Serbia’s mountain resorts promise an exciting winter holiday season.
