A rally of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is held on Saturday in Sremska Mitrovica on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia. N1 reporter Ksenija Pavkov, reporting from the event, said that people insulted them and threatened to kill them.

„It is very unpleasant to stand here in the Sremska Mitrovica downtown holding the N1 microphone. This is the last reporting with the N1 sign on the microphone. People are approaching and insulting us. A while ago, a man approached me and told me that he can’t wait for us all to be killed and for us to come to Republika Srpska (a region in the neighbouring Bosnia with majority of the Serb population) so we will see what will happen,“ said N1’s Pavkov.

The reporter confirmed the information about a large number of buses, many of them from Bosnia and Herzegovina, were on their way to Sremska Mitrovica.

Some of those buses were half empty, according to our reporter. Two women she spoke to told her that the daily allowance for attending the rally had jumped to 5,000 dinars (cca 42 euro) a few days before the rally.

The rally in Sremska Mitrovica, held by the supporters of the SNS and President Aleksandar Vucic, is taking place simultaneously with the rally in Kragujevac, where tens of thousands of students and citizens gathered on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia.
