N1's birthday, eight years of fighting for a healthier media space

Resistance to this approach of journalism is increasing. For us, the news is what someone tries to hide, and the goal of those who have the power and authority is to keep it invisible. That is why during these years we were called traitors, foreign agents and enemies of the state. That is why armies of bots have been hired to monitor every second of our program and every news published on the portal in order to find and create a reason for an attack.

The absurdity of fabrications in the tabloids, to which politicians are later latched, is not worth mentioning, although we are aware that this amount of daily propaganda has consequences for public opinion. The latest analysis by the Slavko Curuvija foundation showed that from April to July, politicians in Serbia, attacked critical journalists at least 68 times in the media and on social networks, and these were mostly journalists from media within the United Media Group, of which N1 was attacked at least 24 times.

A year ago, we sent an open invitation to the authorities to refrain from attacks for at least six months, to show that they are ready to play fair for at least half a year. They did not care, nor did they think for a second that they would stop the attacks on N1 from a position of power. On the contrary, they use all possible tools to destroy us.

In addition to the pressures in the regime's media, the assembly, on social networks, the tactics of the economic plan for our destruction are increasingly clear. By using the state-owned Telekom, users of the SBB network, the only one on which N1 is broadcast in Serbia, are being attacked.

Under the guise of market competition, unrealistic tariffs are offered for switching from SBB, citizens are aggressively attacked at their doorsteps, and now MTS employees are standing in front of our cable operator's branch offices and are convincing citizens to give up SBB, and thus give up from N1.

The English Premier League, paid 600 million euros from the coffers of a state-owned company, has become a tool for the destruction of free media. International rules are not important in market competition, it is only important that as few people as possible watch us, and that foreign investors are forced to give up their business in Serbia.

We are aware that we are not the only media under attack and that there are many oppressed journalists. That is why we are always here to support them and try to fight together for a just democratic society.

Instead of weakening us with these pressures, the government strengthened us. We have more content on the portal than ever before, and the number of unique visitors who get their information through N1 is constantly growing. We introduced new and refreshed old formats on TV.
