A new phishing campaign is under way, which abuses the name of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), warned the National Center for the Prevention of Security Risks in ICT systems of the Republic of Serbia (CERT).

The phishing attempts are initiated from the Facebook page named NBS, mimicking the legitimate web page of the National Bank of Serbia, whereby the citizens are offered a false possibility to double their Dina Card balance, if they provide required information, said the National CERT.

“Since the phishing page is created with the intent to collect citizens’ personal data, the advertised reward being fraudulent and not associated in any way with the National Bank of Serbia, the National CERT urges the citizens not to disclose their personal information,” said the National CERT.

The NBS also warned users on social networks about the fake website of the central bank and the possible abuse of personal data.

“The NBS has identified a fake page on Facebook that purports to belong to the Serbian central bank. The page uses the NBS name and logo and requires DinaCard users to leave their financial data as part of an alleged prize game. Having in mind that this is a fake page, through which users’ personal data and payment card details are collected and abused, the NBS urges citizens not to take part in this and similar false prize games,” said the NBS advising users to contact their payment card issuers as soon as possible if they had already entered their payment card data.

“The NBS has taken appropriate steps with a view to preventing fraudulent activity and identifying the perpetrators of this criminal offence,” said the Serbian central bank.
