The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said on Monday that industrial production dropped by more than 9 percent in January mainly due to the fact that the country’s only oil refinery operated at reduced capacity.

“SORS data indicate that industrial production declined by 9.1% y-o-y in January 2026. The decline is largely attributable to manufacturing whose output contracted by 12.4% y-o-y, reflecting chiefly the shutdown of the oil refinery in Pančevo (contributing 4.8 pp to the total industrial decline),” a press release said.
It said output dropped in 16 of 24 manufacturing sectors.
“According to the Labour Force Survey for Q4 2025, the unemployment rate equaled 8.9%, the employment rate – 50.5% and the participation rate (15–64) – 72.7%,” the press release said.
