The leader of the opposition New Democratic Party of Serbia, Milos Jovanovic, requested a discussion to be initiated in Serbia on further European integration after the European Parliament adopted a resolution saying Kosovo's independence and the introduction of sanctions on Russia were stated as a condition for membership.

„Thank you to the European Parliament, thank you to Olaf Scholz for saying what we have been saying since 2014, it has now been said loud and clear – that our membership is conditional on the recognition of Kosovo and Metohija. If we want to be a member of the EU, we have to do it,“ Jovanovic told N1.

He stressed that he is not „anti-European“, but that the EU itself set a condition, the recognition of Kosovo, which would mean that „we would kill ourselves as a people, a nation and a state“.

This is why a discussion on further European integration of Serbia should be initiated, he argued.

„We have been on the European road for over 20 years, and we have never had a discussion on it,“ Jovanovic added.
