New round of Belgrade-Pristina talks held: Agreement on joint commission on missing persons
A trilateral meeting was held in Brussels on Tuesday between head of the Office for Kosovo Petar Petkovic, European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak, and Pristina’s chief negotiator Besnik Bislimi, as part of the latest round of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue at the chief negotiators’ level.
The head of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo, Petar Petkovic, said that the last remaining obstacle to implementing the Declaration on Missing Persons has been eliminated.
“We have the Declaration, we have the Rules of Procedure, and we have now agreed on a joint commission to support the working group chaired, as before, by the International Committee of the Red Cross. This is significant and important for us, and it is something Belgrade has consistently insisted upon. If it hadn’t been for our efforts, this agreement would not have been reached,” Petkovic remarked.
He emphasized that Belgrade has always maintained that the issue of missing persons is not political but purely humanitarian and that it must be resolved.
