The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) said on Wednesday that its new chief Caroline Ziadeh had arrived in Pristina.

Ziadeh, the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo, takes over from Zahir Tanin.

“I look forward to engaging with Kosovo authorities and civil society as well as our international partners in Kosovo and the region. Under my leadership, UNMIK will maintain its commitment to support the institutions and people of Kosovo for the realization of a more peaceful and prosperous future through promoting human rights, building trust across communities and empowering agents of positive change, including women and youth. UNMIK will remain steadfast in its support for the EU-facilitated dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement and long-term peace and reconciliation,” the press release quoted Ziadeh as saying.

The Lebanese diplomat held positions in her country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants and led her nation’s delegation to the UN on human rights issues, the Women, Peace and Security agenda and migration. She was Lebanon’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN and held posts in the several embassies in Europe and to the European Union.
