A Serbian NGO on Thursday demanded the immediate dismissal of the head of the Environmental Protection Agency for jeopardizing the country’s interests.

The Tvrdjava (Fortress) NGO said that Agency chief Filip Radovic jeopardized environmental monitoring and endangered Serbia’s national interests by striking out at experts. It recalled that two of the agency’s top officials have been dismissed including Dejan Lekic who was head of the Agency IT system and the only liaison with the European environmental agency.

“The ecological catastrophe facing Serbia is a serious challenge which the country has to respond to adequately. The state needs experts and every blow against them cannot be in the interest of the public and their health,” the NGO said in a press release.
