The Belgrade-based IDEAS organization said on Thursday that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered Serbia to stop the deportation of a Kurdish woman and her two children to Turkey.

The woman and her children aged 4 and 6 were detained at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport by the border police, IDEAS said adding that they could face persecution in if returned to Turkey.

The IDEAS press release said that the ECHR issued a temporary order to prevent their deportation by the Serbian authorities. It said that this was the 8th temporary order issued by the ECHR to prevent deportations from Serbia and the second in less than a month for cases at Belgrade airport handled by the border police.

IDEAS is a UNHCR partner organization protecting the rights of asylum seekers and refugees.
