The Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) has applied to the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for a new special operating license. The license would allow the company to continue its operations without interruption after March 20, when its current license is set to expire.

In its request, NIS emphasized the critical importance of maintaining stable operations for the Serbian economy, particularly in light of global volatility and current conditions in the world oil market. The company also noted that negotiations regarding a change in its ownership structure have reached an advanced stage, according to a statement on its website.

NIS expressed its gratitude to all domestic and international institutions supporting efforts to ensure the company can continue to operate smoothly and contribute to Serbia’s energy stability.

In addition to the operating permit, NIS holds a separate license, valid until March 24, which allows for negotiations regarding the exit of its Russian majority owners from the company.

Back in January, the majority shareholder, Gazprom Neft, submitted a draft sales agreement to divest its stake to the Hungarian oil and gas company, MOL.
