The company Starting, which carried out reconstruction work at the Novi Sad train station, where a canopy collapse on November 1 last year killed 16 people, has filed a lawsuit against attorney Ivan Ninic, who represents Dijana Hrka, the mother of one of the victims, Stefan.

Starting has filed six additional lawsuits, and there is suspicion that Hrka herself may also be among the defendants, Nova reported.

Ninic, who is representing Hrka, revealed the lawsuit on his social media profile last week.

Dijana Hrka, Stefan’s mother, also spoke to the media about the lawsuit, expressing concern that she, too, may be among those being sued, nova.rs reported.

“I’m the one exposing their dirty dealings, the people they work with. I want Ivan, my lawyer, to be free of this. If someone needs to be held accountable – it should be me,” she said in a video shared on social media.

“Is it really possible that a state company - because Starting belongs to someone in the government - is suing my lawyer, and that I’m probably among the defendants too? They’ve already wronged me. They killed my child and now they’re suing me? And my lawyer? This is makes no sense. This can happen only in Serbia.”

Dijana Hrka has repeatedly spoken out publicly about the company Starting in connection with the reconstruction project at the Novi Sad train station, where the canopy collapsed. To date, no one from Starting has been detained or held accountable for the tragedy.
