Antic was dismissed at a Union meeting and new leadership has been appointed, it reported.

N1 contacted a number of union officials but none of them were willing to comment on this matter.

Antic was detained on suspicion of embezzlement. He was released pending trial, however, that decision was appealed and he was then remanded in custody.

Two other Union members were detained along with Antic, and this was preceded by a negative campaign against the Military Union of Serbia in the pro-regime media. Antic denied the accusations, saying they have to do with a staged political process because of the union’s activities, its disclosure of the information that the Defense Ministry and General Staff leadership are violating the law and that the Military Security Agency is being misused.

The Ministry Union of Serbia said that it held an extraordinary assembly on March 14 and elected a new leadership.

A statement signed by Captain First Class Sasa Velinov, identified as the head of the Military Union of Serbia, said that 37 Union representatives voted in favor of Antic’s dismissal, with one abstention.

The statement said that the Military Union of Serbia distances itself from the statements and actions of members of the previous leadership that ran counter to the Union Statute and principles.
