The Nova.rs portal said on Friday that the government adopted two draft media laws without removing the parts that would allow the state-owned Telekom Serbia to own media outlets.
The portal was told by Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) Tamara Filipovic that those articles of the draft laws remained unchanged. “The Telekom was never disputed. They never intended to give up those articles,” Filipovic said. She was a member of the Working Group of government officials and media experts that drafted the laws.
The drafts will be passed into law with a majority vote in parliament which will probably meet next week. Nova.rs said that there is no indication whether the draft laws will be on the agenda of that session.
The two laws were drafted as part of efforts to bring order to the media scene in Serbia and align the country’s laws with European practices.
