As the court confirmed to 021.rs, the decision to extend their detention was made on May 23.
“The preliminary hearing panel reviewed the complete case files and determined that the reasons prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code for keeping the defendants in custody still exist—namely, that there are specific circumstances indicating that if released, the defendants could commit similar criminal acts in the near future for which they are reasonably suspected in these criminal proceedings,” said the court in its ruling.
The defendants and their lawyers have the right to appeal this decision to the Higher Court.
The next hearing for the main trial is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at the Higher Court in Novi Sad.
Student protesters from Novi Sad were attacked on the night of January 27-28 outside the SNS offices and in front of an elementary school in the city.
In the incident, a female student from the Academy of Arts was seriously injured, suffering a broken jaw.
