On Monday, judges in the city of Novi Sad began signing a petition in support of protesting students.

The students have been blocking university faculties across Serbia for weeks, demanding accountability for a November incident at Novi Sad train station, where a collapsed concrete canopy killed 15 people.

Razglas news has learned that 38 judges from the Novi Sad Basic, Higher, Appeals, and Commercial Courts signed the petition within just a few hours on Monday. Court advisors and assistants from the Court of Appeals have also started collecting signatures in support of the students.

“We call for restraint from all forms of violence against participants in peaceful protests, especially against high school and university students, who are the future of our society,“ said the judges’ statement of support for the students.
