The Serbian Supreme Public Prosecution transferred the Novi Sad Railway Station case to the Organized Crime Public Prosecution on Wednesday, making it possible for prosecutors to investigate top-level elected officials.

The case is being transferred from the Special Section on Corruption at the Novi Sad Higher Prosecution. Belgrade Prosecution Jasmina Paunovic told N1 earlier that the powers of the Novi Sad prosecution section do not allow it to look into the responsibility of officials in the executive authorities. The collapse of a concrete awning at the recently reconstructed station claimed 15 lives on November 1.

Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac is quoted as saying in a statement that she decided to transfer the case along with the investigating prosecutor because the facts indicate the possible commission of crimes that fall within the jurisdication of the organized crime and terrorism bodies. She said that the investigation will continue independently and with the highest priority.

Dolovac also called protesting students to send their representatives to a meeting to discuss whether their demands towards prosecutors have been met.
