NUNS chief: Nova S has minimal or no chance of getting the 5th frequency

The chances of the Nova S TV station getting a license for the fifth national broadcasting frequency are minimal, almost non-existent, head of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) Zeljko Bodrozic told N1.

Bodrozic said the government does not wish to change what it has conquered, “they want to grab everything, I do not believe that, mostly due to the external circumstances because of which the government feels unstable, they will allow for the fifth national broadcasting frequency to go to a television station that is not controlled by (Serbian President and Serbian Progressive Party, SNS, leader Aleksandar) Vucic and the SNS.”

The NUNS chief added that Kurir TV stands the greatest chance of getting the fifth license.

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) awarded in July this year four national broadcasting licenses to the same televisions stations that previously had them. The tender for the fifth license was called only in August this year and REM Council chair Olivera Zekic said that four television stations have applied for the fifth frequency – Nova S, Kurir, Kopernikus and BK.

“If REM actually made its decision based on presentations and previous work, then there would be no dilemma that one of the frequencies would be awarded to Nova S TV,” Bodrozic told the N1 TV morning show.

He noted that television stations such as Prva and B92 were awarded national broadcasting licenses despite the fact that their programs do not satisfy the set criteria, as well as that the state has “strengthened Kurir TV with our money, it supported it with our money to work for only a part of the Serbian citizens.”
