NUNS says attacks on journalists continued in December

A press release said that NUNS registered 37 incidents of that kind in December including threats and physical assaults on journalists and media staff along with a campaign against a female journalist by pro-regime tabloids. There was also 1 case of pressure on a journalist to reveal sources.

“An exceptionally high number of very dangerous threats against journalists and media staff was registered in December, in some cases they were preceded by direct targeting by high-ranking public officials,” it said.

The NUNS press release expressed concern over threats accompanied by sexist insults against women journalists.

It said that there were also cases of the police obstructing reporters.
