Objections filed to Belgrade Waterfront expansion

Belgrade Stays activist Djordje Miketic said that the objections were filed with the Spatial Planning and Urbanism Agency on Thursday. He said 15 local community assemblies were involved in gathering the signatures and objections. “Coordination is very important. I we defend Belgrade piece by piece, everyone in their neighborhood we probably won’t succeed,” he added.

Miketic said that this is the best indication that Belgrade residents want to plan their own city and not have someone introduce plans behind their backs.

He said the authorities will most probably review the objections but will not take them into consideration.

The Serbian authorities are planning to tear down significant parts of the area on the banks of the Sava river between the Belgrade Waterfront complex and Belgrade Fair which will loose most of its exhibition halls. The Belgrade Waterfront is a pet project for the authorities.
