Lawyer and vice president of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) Aleksandar Olenik said that recent leaks about the expulsion of a Russian diplomat represent President Aleksandar Vucic’s attempt to pressure Moscow.

Posting on social media platform X, Olenik argued that Vucic leaked the information to gain leverage over Russia amid disputes involving the state-owned energy company NIS and allegations of Serbian arms exports to Ukraine.

The Valjevo branch of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) briefly published—then deleted—a draft document stating that the first secretary of the Russian embassy in Belgrade would be declared persona non grata.

Olenik called the incident “a weak, clumsy and damaging move for Serbia’s reputation,” adding that Serbia “should have expelled the Russian ambassador long ago.”
