Ominimo becomes 1st Serbian unicorn startup

A press release said it raised a new round of investment from outside investors, including the investment arm of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) bringing its market value to $1.6 billion and making it Serbia's first startup to reach unicorn status.

Ominimo is an insurance technology company founded in 2024 by Dusan Komar, Laszlo Horvat and Dennis Weinbender that uses artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve how motor insurance is priced and sold. The company expanded into 4 European markets and is expected to expand to 6 more.

Komar is quoted as saying that the achievement is a great moment for the company and Serbia’s entire startup ecosystem. “Once a country gets its first unicorn international investment funds view it differently increasing the chances of more big startups. He recalled that most of the 100-strong team are young experts from Serbia working in Belgrade and Novi Sad and added that Ominimo has almost a million clients and an annual turnover of more than 350 million Dollars making it the fast growing company of its kind in the world.
