The opposition Ecological Uprising on Wednesday called the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)  to revoke Belgrade’s license for the EXPO 2027. Pročitaj više

It said that the license should be revoked because of the current situation in the country and the activities of the Serbian government in preparing the EXPO 2027 which it said are in violation of Serbian laws. A statement said that a new scandal is looming and added that corruption kills.

Earlier on Wednesday, Belgrade daily Danas reported speculation and rumors that said Belgrade could lose the license for the EXPO 2027 because of political instability following the deaths of 15 people at Novi Sad Railway Station. It quoted lawyer and League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) official Aleksandar Olenik who said in an X post that there are 5 reasons to revoke the license: civil unrest, corruption and mismanagement, suppressing civil liberties, security risks and any other activity that could pose a danger to participants.

In its written reply to Danas, the BIE said it does not issue licenses but only accepts them for specialized EXPO and registers them for World EXPO following a comprehensive evaluation process and a vote by its 184 member states. It said progress reports are filed regularly.
