Serbian Deputy Parliament Speaker Snezana Paunovic invited opposition MPs to agree to another meeting with government representatives on the implementation of ODIHR recommendations on improving electoral conditions before making a final decision on whether to participate in the Belgrade elections.
Serbian Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic has scheduled Belgrade elections for June 2.
“The date of local election in other cities and municipalities is something we can and must discuss,” said Paunovic, a Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) MP.
She said government representatives are hoping for “another round of talks,” because Speaker Ana Brnabic’s tolerance “is an ideal platform for this,” as is “her resolve to reconcile disagreements between the ruling majority and opposition representatives at all costs.”
Representatives of the government, opposition and NGOs on Wednesday held the fourth meeting on improving electoral conditions, following which the opposition Serbia Against Violence coalition said there are no conditions for it to participate in the elections, but that the final decision would be taken on Friday.
