The Leader of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), Dragan Djilas, estimated that the European Union's ban on Serbia importing Russian oil is the first visible consequence of not accepting the EU's foreign policy.

„Over time, we would also face the departure of many companies that operate in our country. All this would lead to the loss of jobs,“ said Djilas for Nova daily.

He estimated that due to the deterioration of Serbia’s international position, some Kosovo initiatives, such as the request for membership in the Council of Europe, will probably receive the „green light“.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said at Saturday’s press conference in Belgrade that Serbia will be guided exclusively by its own interests when it comes to imposing sanctions on Russia.

He said that Belgrade does not owe anything to anyone and that Russia, to which Serbia has not imposed sanctions for 230 days, at one time did not hesitate for a single day to impose sanctions on FR Yugoslavia, despite not being pressured to do so.

He added, however, that Serbia will not introduce sanctions for now, not only because of cheap gas and Russia’s support for Kosovo, but also due to moral reasons, because it was itself under sanctions at the end of the last century.
