Opposition MP files criminal charges against Vucic
Serbian opposition MP Marinika Tepic filed criminal charges against President Aleksandar Vucic over his threats to prosecutors.
Tepic, deputy leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), said the charges were filed because Vucic’s threats are intentional pressure on prosecutors which constitutes obstruction of justice.
“These charges against Vucic are not just a formality. They are a message to every citizen, every lawyer, every prosecutor: No one should be scared and the justice will reach Vucic who thinks he is above it or that some gathering of false support will help him,” she said alluding to the weekend gathering called by Vucic in Belgrade.
A group of public prosecutors said Vucic’s statement was inappropriate influence on the judiciary. A statement by 26 prosecutors was sent to the High Prosecutors’ Council saying that the president does not have the authority to evaluate the activities of prosecutors.
Vucic threatened to personally file charges against any prosecutor who refuses to order the arrest of what he called “blockader media” in a live appearance on the pro-regime TV Pink. The Nova.rs portal said that he was allegedly alluding to N1, Nova and Danas daily who have daily coverage of the student protests across Serbia.
