A Serbian opposition official warned on Tuesday that protesting Serbian students are being called sympathizers of the terrorist Hamas organization by regime media that quoted an opinion piece by Holocaust investigator Efraim Zuroff. Pročitaj više

Zuroff said in an opinion piece for the Jerusalem Post that theater actors and students in Serbia were using the red hand symbol that he said is a symbol used by Hamas. He quoted the pro-regime B92 portal which said that a performance of the Nutcracker in a Belgrade theater ended with a display of symbols banned by many European governments.

Borko Stefanovic MP said in a written statement that Zuroff’s opinion piece was quoted by pro-regime media in a fresh attack on students, actors and their supporters “who have already been accused by the regime of being Ustashe, foreign mercenaries and spies and are now being accused of supporting the terrorist Hamas”.

“It’s impossible for Efraim Zuroff not to know what symbols the terrorist Hamas uses,” Stefanovic wrote and added that it’s equally “impossible that Zuroff slyly used and connected a recording of the lynching of Israeli soldiers in Ramallah by Palestinian terrorists in the year 2000 with the symbol of a student protest in Serbia this winter”. “The truth is that Zuroff placed a vicious and dangerous deception and lie about links between a Hamas symbol and the protests in Serbia. The question is why Zuroff did this, why now and what that has to do with (Serbian President Aleksandar) Vucic’s well-paid advisers who fled the Israeli judiciary,” he added. “You should be ashamed for this Mr Zuroff,” the deputy leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) wrote.

Stefanovic said the bloody hands symbol in Serbia are a cry for justice for the 15 people who died in the collapse of a concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station.
