An opposition MP said on Tuesday that parliament would not be electing members of the REM media watchdog at this week’s session.

Speaking after a meeting of the Parliament Collegium, Green-Left MP Bogdan Radovanovic told the FoNet news agency that Speaker Ana Brnabic’s plans for the session do not include the election of members of the REM Council. He said the election of those members could take place in February before the regular March sitting.

The election of the REM Council has been a point of contention between the authorities, opposition, media, institutions of culture and civil society organizations for months with some of the candidates nominated by organizations, media and institutions not affiliated with the authorities.
