Opposition MP Jelena Jerinic said that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) behaves in the Serbian Parliament “like some military organization” and that “there is a well-written scenario and they follow it.”

“I see no difference in the way male and female SNS MPs behave. Female SNS MPs also shout and make insults. Maybe they are not as loud, but they do that,” Jerinic, who is a member of the opposition Green-left Club, Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own and We Must MP caucus, told the weekly NIN.

This Union University constitutional law professor said “the ruling party MPs primarily act as party members, they are not parliament members or representatives of the people, they are not women, the female SNS MPs who target female opposition MPs.”

“Their identity is their political party membership, everything is subordinated to that. And each one of them has a very defined role – those who shout, those who may ask to speak, those who are present just because of the numbers,” said Jerinic, adding she believes this is not about electoral motivation but rather a display of dominance.

“In a way it is also intimidation and marginalization and presenting of the opposition in public as insufficiently capable and professional to be able to handle the situation. It’s a part of a long-term campaign,” said Jerinic.

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is led by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
