Opposition MPs walk out of parliament

Parliament convened for a session on security in the country on Thursday following protests and demands for the dismissal of the Internal Affairs Minister Bratislav Gasic and the head of the Security Information Agency (BIA) Aleksandar Vulin.

MPs from the Democratic Party (DS) and the Green-Left Club (Zeleno-levi klub) walked out of the session, saying they won’t return until their demands are met.

“We no longer want to take part in this, we are leaving the session and joining the 6 pm protest,” DS leader Zoran Lutovac said. He said that the demands made by the opposition “are about personal and institutional accountability” and added that what the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers said shows that they are denying responsibility. Lutovac said the opposition MPs would continue discussing social order once those demands are met.

According to the DS leader, the ruling coalition is trying to silence the protests and prevent any changes.
