Savo Manojlovic, the leader of the opposition movement Go Change (Kreni Promeni) who was arrested Wednesday during a protest against the demolition of a historic bridge in central Belgrade, was released later in the day.
Following his arrest, members of the Go Change movement reported that Manojlovic was feeling unwell due to the brutal treatment he received at the hands of the police and that he was taken to an emergency center for medical attention.
After enduring the violent arrest and mistreatment, Manojlovic addressed the public in a video message on social media, thanking citizens for their support.
“I feel fine, though I have several bruises, contusions, and scratches from the handcuffs. I also have severe pain in my ribs, which makes it a bit difficult for me to move,” he said.
He encouraged all citizens to continue their fight for the preservation of Serbia’s heritage and public spaces. “I call on all Serbian citizens to fight for every bridge, every park, every city, for Serbia. This is a battle between the corrupt politicians in power who love money, and the people who love this country. The side with the greater love will win. We will win! To victory!” said Manojlovic.
