Opposition party leader arrested for anti-violence graffiti on sidewalk
A leader of the Zajedno (Together) opposition party was arrested on Sunday night for spray painting the words Serbia Against Violence on the sidewalk outside the Serbian Parliament.
Zajedno co-president Biljana Stojkovic was arrested with two other activists in central Belgrade, opposition Democratic Party (DS) MP Srdjan Milivojevic said.
The Zajedno party demanded her immediate release. Stojkovic was freed after being detained for several hours. The party recalled in a press release that its party secretary in the city of Novi Sad was arrested by a SWAT team with no explanation in the middle of the day.
Zajedno activist Aleksandar Radosavljevic said that the graffiti was painted as a performance. He said that they were arrested by plain clothes police who handled them roughly, pushing them into a car and taking them to the local police station. He said that Stojkovic’s arm was twisted and her phone taken from her.
