Opposition councilors wanted to access the main assembly hall for a meeting but were stopped by a group of men in plain clothes only one of who had an ID card.
The Novi Sad City Assembly was supposed to meet on Monday to adopt a city budget but that meeting was postponed for a third time, forcing the city to go to temporary financing. Students gathered in front of the building to protest.
A police cordon did not allow the opposition councilors into the City Assembly, causing some shoving and pushing which the students joined before they managed to get in.
An opposition councilor told N1 that the assembly secretary told them they were finished and could leave. He said councilors have the right to be in the building and stay as long as they like.
The Novi Sad City Assembly has its own security.
