Opposition MPs Miroslav Aleksic, Slavica Radovanovic and Srcjan Milivojevic met Wednesday with Belgrade Police chief Veselin Milic and heads of six other police departments.

The meeting was aimed at establishing better communication and coordination with the police in order to prevent unwanted developments at the Serbia Against Violence protest, that is, so as to prevent provocateurs who attended the previous protest from interfering with the non-violent nature of the protest.

Belgrade Police chief Milic and his colleagues assured the opposition MPs, who are also the technical organizers of the Serbia Against Violence protest, that the police will be present on the streets during the protest and allow the protesters a peaceful march, and noted that at this point there are no indications that there could be an outbreak of violence during the protest.

The fourth Serbia Against Violence protest was to be held on Friday, June 2, at the same time and place as the previous three protests.

However, a protest “Stop to Violence Against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija” has also been scheduled for Friday which the opposition described as a provocation by the regime aimed at provoking incidents and clashes in Belgrade.

An invitation to a protest on the same day was posted on social media when head of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP caucus Milenko Jovanovic told the Serbian Parliament that his party will be chasing the opposition through the streets of Belgrade.

In light of all this, the technical organizers of the Serbia Against Violence protest will decide on Wednesday whether the protest will be rescheduled.
